Our speaker this week was Lamont Glass, from the National Wildlife Refuge. Topics discussed included the Refuge Improvement Act of 1997, the many types of wildlife that can be found on our local refuge sites, as well as the many activities available to the public on refuge sites. Many sites offer public observations and photography, and most allow hunting as well. Currently, the McNary Environmental Education Center (which is ran largely by volunteers) is opening its doors to the public on weekdays and even some weekends, offering the public options for outdoor learning programs. The education center is a great option for the whole family - just prepare to get a little mud in your shoes!
