Collin Hastings. Executive Director of the Pasco Chamber, provided justifications for keeping the Snake River Dams operational.  He believes there is much misinformation on this subject.  The dams have provided an economic boom to the area through its irrigation/transportation systems.  NOAA reports that the juvenile salmon survival is now 97% and the Corps is meeting its goals.  Besides providing a sustainable power source, the dams allow barge traffic to serve the area.  This network is very efficient in that a four barge tow is equivalent to 538 trucks with trailers.   Wheat, the number one US export, and soybean farmers depend upon this system.
Next week Sean O’Leary will provide an opposing view.
